Logo Sketch

So in this picture you can read my thoughts about what all of the images should communicate to whoever reads it. My main point that I was to convey is openness and truth. I don’t want someone to look at my logo and think I am bias for one party or the other. So to convey that the first thing that popped into my head was Lady Justices Scales of truth.

To convey politics specifically I added the party animals onto the scales, and I still want to see how that looks but it seemed to be too much and I might just get rid of the animals in favor of simplicity.

Political Collage Finished!

My photo collage is finally done!

It wasn’t easy for me at first because what I had done with my draft was nothing like what was in my head, but I had no idea where to start to try and get it to look more like what I was imagining. So i decided to just build of what I already had so I wasn’t just sitting around getting anxious because I wasn’t getting anything done.

The first image I added to the collage was protest poster board picture of Carrie Fisher as Pincess Leia with the words “A women’s place is in the resistance.” Once I added that, it was like someone had pushed a boulder down a hill, I was on a roll.

Soon I realized that pxhere didn’t have the kind of content I was looking for so I searched up “free political pictures” which lead me to UnSplash, photos for everyone. I downloaded a lot of their pictures and got the result above.

I wish I could’ve used more pictures of my own but sadly I’ve only been to one protest, an abortion protest so the only pictures I had dealt with that controversy and I wanted this collage to contain many different controversies and movements. So that’s why I used mainly other peoples photos.

The main thing I did was simply adding layer masks and blending the different pictures together. I didn’t edit the pictures in any other way.

Political Collage, draft

I found all these photos on pxhere.com except for the “keep your politics out of my pussy.” That one I took myself. This collage didn’t accomplish what I was wanting to do in my head, but it’s ok. Still needs a lot of work.

I used the candles picture on the bottom as my base picture, and after trying to blend the newspaper into it didn’t work, I changed the background color to be black to merge into the picture better. It took a long time for me to remember how to get the edges of the newspaper picture to feather and blend better with the bottom picture, the candles. I also cut the flag and the quote out of their original pictures, I was hoping that would make it easier to blend them. In the end I ended up not using them.

I wanted it to be as political as I could get it because I want it to be the background photo that’s just behind the name of this blog on the home page. Obviously this isn’t going to be that picture, but its getting there!

My Game Plan!

I am choosing to write about my opinions on politics in any way I cam. I want to talk about politics because I have a lot of very strong opinions on politics and controversial topics that I really just want to get out into the world. It will also help me solidify my thoughts and reasons and such, which is important to me because I want to go into the world of politics when I’m out of college and this seems like a good starting point.

For projects and assignments, I’m thinking I’m going to interview others and possibly myself for audio and video, and I can get creative for photos. Maybe make a few signs or something. I’m gonna need the help of others for my content.

I don’t have many ideas for future projects but for the photo collage I was thinking about taking pictures with my friends, and of news papers and I can utilize the May 4th center because that was a very politically charged event.

For my audio I was thinking I could interview my friends on different topics, like maybe they’re experience with sexual harassment.

One place I get a lot of inspiration from is the account Feminist on Instagram, they post a lot of really inspiring content about slut shaming and misogyny. Another account I love in instagram is catcallsofnyc. The women runs the account has people message her about their experiences with cat calling in New York city and she chalks the very vulgar things that have been said. She does it to bring attention to hurtful catcalling. I get most if not all my political updates through following CNN and the washintongtonpost.

These all relate to my content on here because I love the creative ways that Feminist and catcallsofnyc advocate against different issues, and obviously I get my political content from the news account that I can then focus on.
